Hi folks. My manual steering gearbox is leaking. It is filled with SAE 90 oil. Would it also be possible to fill in fluid gear grease? Has anybody among you already done this?
I've often thought about whether grease isn't enough for this. What do you think?

Best to fix it, otherwise drill and tap the plug and install a grease nipple, pump in wheel bearing grease, it will leak somewhat, but way less.

Hello Swen. Yeah, something like that. Grease should work too. Thank you for your thoughts on this...

I am pretty sure the service manual does say to use a grease. I am not at home at this time to look up the page but, I have no issue with leaking. I use a White Lithum Lucas grease.

Don't pump too much in the gear box, leave room for some expansion.

SM says SAE 90 Oil. But in the meantime I've read several times that grease can be used in manual steering gears. But not (!) with power steering.

GM had even a service bulletin about grease fitting and pump grease in the steering gears.
