Location: NY | Hi,
I think I have a very small leak (or leaks) in my fuel tank. What happens is I'll put gas in the tank, the car sits foe awhile, and suddenly the tank is empty.
I cannot see any visible leaks or seeps from on the bottom of the tank.
Eastwood makes a tank sealing kit, anyone have any experience with using one? I think there is a fuel pickup inside the tank and I am concerned the sealer might clog the pickup.
Since its a wagon finding another tank does not seem to be an option.
Thanks in advance |

Location: So. Cal | I wouldn't use a sealer in it. You never know how long it will last in there. I recommend pulling the tank down, leave the sender in it, fill it with water, and find the leak. It could be that it's just your o-ring seal that has gone bad. If you don't find any leaks, I would suspect your inlet tube seal is bad or leaking. When you find the leak, there are ways to fix it properly and we can help you with that.
Another possibility is someone is going around siphoning your tank at night.

| I would think, that after loosing a tank of gas on the ground or wherever the car is parked, you would smell the gas. Make sure someone is not steeling your gas before you ripe things apart. Gas is easy to detect by smell on the ground, on concrete, etc..

Location: NY | Thanks all.
Car is garaged kept so no chance of pilfering gas.
Also have not noticed any stains/spills on the floor or any kind of strong gas smell.
I only drive the car locally and not that often and put gas in periodically. I think the sender is bad which so fuel gauge is not accurate. So I hate to admit it, maybe I'm just running the tank dry? That HAS happened once or twice before.
I've never checked how many miles per gallon/tank these old gals get so maybe that's the issue? Operator error.... |

Location: So. Cal | My '61 Lancer wagon has a gas leak at the top of the tank. It doesn't leak until you go around turns or hit bumps. So it doesn't leave any stains either, but when it does leak, you can smell it pretty strong inside the car. |
