Hi I am stumped on a problem my 57 Plymouth is experiencing.
The wipers have worked flawlessly since I built the car in 2007.
Recently the wipers have developed a fault whereby the wipers just stop wherever they are when the wiper switch is turned off.
So the wiper motor is not reversing as it should when turned off.
Hoping it might just be the switch I sourced a nos switch and swapped it in. No difference.
I wired up a spare motor on the bench to the old switch, following the wiring in the manual.
I find that when everything is hooked up properly the motor reverses when the switch is turned off.
But if I take the ground wire off the motor just stops wherever it was when the switch is turned off, it doesn’t reverse.
Thinking it must be a ground issue at the switch or motor, I have checked the ground at both locations and it’s fine. I even ran a temporary ground to the engine block to double check. No difference.
What could be causing this? I don’t want to remove the wiper motor if I don’t have to.

There's a diagnostic for wipers not parking correctly, in the 57-8 shop manual. But if you have a motor that has been bench tested, then I would just swap it out. Easiest to get at if you remove the cardboard glove box liner.

Thanks Ron. It’s not that the wipers are not parking, the motor needs to reverse first to activate the park switch, and that’s the problem-the wipers are not reversing when switched off. They just stop wherever they are when the switch is turned to off.
