Extreme Veteran Posts: 463 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: McCleary WA | Recently posted was a video interview with the new owner of my '57 Dodge hemi convertible. You can watch it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmP_GFlZMUM and enjoy the lack of knowledge of both the interviewer and owner. "Coronet Custom Royal Lancer" is not how I described it... The comments are interesting. I really miss it, but not being wealthy meant it had to go in order to build my '57 wagon. It has sold at least 3 times since.

Any idea why the Body Tag says BDY = 2143 (normal Coronet V8 convertible) and NOT 2543 = D-500 Coronet convertible? (I do see the KD500-nnnn engine in the engine bay but that does not make the chassis a D500 chassis.) Hope this doesn't open a can of worms. Just trying to understand the situation. Extreme Veteran Posts: 463 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: McCleary WA | If you read the comments below the video, that is explained. I sold the car as a "Coronet convertible with a D-500 hemi engine" with the buyer knowing (or at least told) the difference. Unfortunately, after 3 or 4 sales that has become a "D-500 Coronet convertible" which is not accurate, hence my comment about the owner not being knowledgeable about what he has. Was the confusion intentional? Not by me. Not sure about other sellers. Bottom line is, do your homework and check the data plate numbers, as you obviously did. He still hasn't changed the title of the video, despite multiple people mentioning that it's incorrect. And as Darryl says, after three or four sales, it's morphed into a correct D500 convertible. The seller will post this video when he goes to cash in his chips, hoping for a big payday from a newbie that doesn't know better. Ron

You certainly were clear that the D-500 engine, etc. came from a D-500 parts car. HOWEVER, whoever typed up this "Dealer" sheet (below) was a little "creative" with the phrasing of the details, i.e. that the D-500 package was either "factory or dealer" installed. True, but just not on this particular car. And yes, I have done my D500 homework on both the 56 D500s (I own one) and the 57 D500s and, in doing, I so started these threads: General 57 Dodge body codes: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=74413&... Specific 57 Dodge D500 body codes: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=74433&... Personally, *IF* I was looking for another 56 or 57 D500, I would have to see an image of the car's IBM card to confirm that the VIN and the D500 engine numbers were the same when the car left the factory. Otherwise, they are too easy to "clone" and pay too much. In my opinion. Bottomline: It is a beautiful car that you can and should be proud to have created. Expert Posts: 4186 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Connecticut | Dave - That window sticker is completely fake. I sure hope that the owner doesn't try to pass it off as 'documentation'. Chrysler Corp didn't use window stickers until 1959. Also the vertical bar on the right side was blue. Ron

True, but just not on this particular car. I'll take the credit for that, but with some explanation. First, window stickers were not even used until 1959. Second, it was created merely to show the relative costs of the options, like the radio being higher cost than the D-500 package, mostly for uninformed general public onlookers. Third, real window stickers don't include a list of those who contributed to the restoration. Originally, it also had my name in the lower right corner, but someone chose to delete that. And lastly, all of those extras came with the car when I bought it - the radio, the hub caps, the antennas, the exhaust tips, the D-500 parts - should I not have used them? And since I did, why not list them? At the time I made that up, I had no intention of ever selling the car so didn't care if it wasn't 100% accurate. I considered it just educational, not deceptive. Elite Veteran Posts: 1154 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: CA | I sold this car to Darryl. I bought the convertible completely apart, in pieces, and missing more conv specific parts that would have made most people run away. The motor was apart and rusted and missing parts. I was captivated and saw the cars potential. I spent a lot of time and found EVERYTHING missing for the car with the exception of sunvisors. I also bought a CRL factory D500 equipped 4dr Sedan with a good drivetrain. I found the searchtune for it. Neil Vedder was of great help to me AND this car, I miss talking to him. Darryl restored this car masterfully and beautifully and I sure as hell would have put the Hemi in it also. After Darryl sold the car those folks AND DEALER who wound up with it can be held to account for their misrepresentation. I also hold the videographer responsible for the conveyance of misinformation too.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1154 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: CA | I also wanted to add that despite some of the additions and arguably "customizations" that were done regarding the motor and maybe the door panels/seats/boot cover Darryl respected and preserved the identity of this car. When I found it the seats were completely missing but the door panels were present and sprayed completely black getting rid of the gold. The seats could have been black tuck-n-roll for all I know. Darryl very much preserved this car the way it was. I really love and highly approve of the job he did. The colors could have been changed, a modern hemi installed.. etc. This cars identity is very much intact, respected, and preserved. It's always hard to see someone else do what you set out to but couldn't for reasons. This car turned out fantastic, I just wish I had gotten to ride in it after all the work was finished.

Expert Posts: 2226 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | . The broadcast sheet will show it... Do you have (had)? For example: radio, antennae, power steering etc had not stamp on the cowl tags... Your car equipped with power brakes, but no "9" below 46 columnn... It also means that your car equipped witth accessory group 336 which includes PS, PB a soft dash pad...

Elite Veteran Posts: 1154 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: CA | It wasn't a power brake car or dashpad equipped, it did have power steering.. and no, I don't have any of that stuff anymore. I sold it to Darryl a decade ago..
