Hello everyone.
I'm currently working on the steering gear. Does it come out in one piece with the steering tube? I can't find a coupling anywhere. Thank you in advance for your reply.

If its an Auto car, then it has the one piece S/box with shaft to the wheel, if manual then the column is separate from the S/Box and has a coupling.

I removed the steering gear because it was leaking. It was leaking from the cover, through which the horn cable also runs.
So I removed it and first replaced the pitman shaft seal. I checked the shims; everything was okay. Two of the screw threads also go into the oil chamber, so I wrapped the screws with Teflon tape and tightened everything back up.

I should mention that because of the leak, I had previously used a thicker fluid. Now, however, I filled it with SAE 90 oil.
I let the assembled steering gear sit with the oil in it for 3-4 days – no leaks! So I reinstalled it. Now, after two weeks, there's oil under the car again.

I was able to determine that the oil is leaking again from the bottom through the shims, even though they're tightened completely. Is this a known problem? Does anyone have any advice?
