Location: Lordstown, Ohio | what value does it have to have “correct” valve covers on a car. does it really add value to the end result. does it really mean anything other then the high minded thoughts that “ i have all numbers correct on my car”. does it really subtract from total value of the car. |

I think I hear you but I would pay slightly more (maybe $100??) for a 55 Dodge with properly painted embossed Super Red Ram valve covers
compared to one with just a decal (Some decals are better than others)
Embossed:
Good decal:
Not best but not the worst decal:

Location: So. Cal | Some people don't care at all. I remember in the '80's-'90's, everyone just threw out the original air cleaners on their muscle cars and ran MOROSO or some other thing on there. They considered any change as an improvement. They did the same thing with the valve covers. Then a change happened where people really admired stock looking engines on their muscle cars. Suddenly those throw-away items were in hot demand and the old MOROSO air cleaners & valve covers became worthless. In general, changes that don't affect the appearance don't change the value very much. But things that are more visible have a bigger effect. But in reality, valve covers are easily changed and still don't cost much. So it shouldn't have a big impact. |

Location: Okielahoma | I'd say it definitely adds value depending on how original the rest of the car is and the condition. While some chrome covers may dress things up, many people see that as being pretentious and flashy for no reason, favoring the utilitarian functional look of things as they came from the factory. How many of us would like to find a super low mileage original version of the car that we have? and once you had it, would you change the valve covers for any reason that wasn't cosmetic? take the same car but it's had a 3rd gen hemi installed, I'd like to see some dress up stuff on that, maybe some chrome covers, do something with the black "bundle of snakes" intake because "original" is already long gone |
