Hunter D. who owns likely the first (or close to it) civilian (non-race) 56 Dodge D500 (engine number D500-1003) flagged a 56 D500 on Hemmings. The car has Golden Lancer paint (Code 077) and seems to have a 56 D500 engine, in this case sporting a 2 x 4 bbl manifold and carbs, potentially making it a D500-1. No engine number was provided initially in the Hemmings advert but Hunter contacted the seller with questions about the engine number, the intake manifold, and IBM card, etc. The VIN number is 3505 2838 which is only 27 after Hunter's D500 (VIN 3505 2811) (build date Dec. 16/55). In answer to Hunter's questions, the seller "Mike" replied: "The engine number is D500-1029 and I have not contacted them (Chrysler Historical). This was my dad's car and passed away 3 years ago. Thanks, Mike" "My dad got the car in 2004 if i remember right and it had a single four barrel on it and the car came out of California. We got the correct number intake and carburetors and installed them. The frame has the engine stamped in it. We found it when we was restoring the car" Condolences to Mike regarding the passing of his father. One question that was not asked (and therefore not answered) was, "Why is the cowl data tag of a style not introduced by Dodge until mid-May 1956?". Curiously (or not) the photo of the cowl tag provided does NOT show the production date. The Body type, paint code and interior trim code all appear legitimate for the car (to me) but the incorrect cowl tag style throws up a red flag (to me). That said, based on the VIN and engine number, I believe that it is a real factory built D500 (but not a D500-1) that was probably built before Christmas 1955. The air cleaners are NOT 56 Dodge D500-1. (But they look good nevertheless) Here is the link to the Hemmings advert (followed by photos that I have saved and resized for "posterity"): https://www.hemmings.com/auction/1956-dodge-custom-royal-d500-777658 Edited by 56D500boy 2025-12-04 3:21 PM (56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_FrontLeftQuarter_1024.jpg) (56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_RightRearQuarter_1024.jpg) (56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_RightSide_1024.jpg) (56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_InteriorFront_1024.jpg) (56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_InteriorRear_1024.jpg) (56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_EngineBay_1024.jpg) (56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_EngineBay2_1024.jpg) (56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_VIN35052838_1024.jpg) (56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_SupposedCowlPlate_1024.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_FrontLeftQuarter_1024.jpg (196KB - 26 downloads) 56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_RightRearQuarter_1024.jpg (174KB - 24 downloads) 56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_RightSide_1024.jpg (156KB - 28 downloads) 56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_InteriorFront_1024.jpg (155KB - 32 downloads) 56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_InteriorRear_1024.jpg (155KB - 29 downloads) 56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_EngineBay_1024.jpg (133KB - 30 downloads) 56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_EngineBay2_1024.jpg (95KB - 31 downloads) 56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_VIN35052838_1024.jpg (78KB - 27 downloads) 56DodgeD500GoldenLancerD500-1029_SupposedCowlPlate_1024.jpg (81KB - 34 downloads) | ||
