Since i have had my 58 DCR the Windscreen Squirters have never been hooked up .
All the parts are there , 3 way Valve on Firewall , Foot Pump , Washer Bag and Squiters on Bonnet/Hood .
I cleaned on the Squiters with a pin and hooked up the Tubes as per instructions found on this website .
They squirted then lost pressure .
I then took off the 3 way valve and checked it .
It was clear and the ball bearing inside was moving freely .
Tried again and heaps more pressure but then the same thing , loss of pressure .
I put my hand around the Foot Pump and found it had water leaking out of it .
I then took the Foot Pump out and took it apart and found the rubber boot was a bit loose around the metal part (yellow arrow)
So i smeared some Silicone around where it meets the metal part .
The Rubber Boot is in good condition with no cracks .
I haven' tried again yet but my question is , should the Foot Pump have water in it ?
I don't understand how the 3 way valve works .

My 56 has the O.E. washer with the bag and foot pump. The foot pump has 2 ports and yes the foot pump does have water in it.
I don’t have the hoses to the foot pump hooked up, it is just there for looks. I bought a small electric washer pump and one day when I get around to it I will install it along with a switch hidden in the foot pump.

I think (hope) that you will find your answers in this old thread (link below). Basically, the foot pedal activates a diaphragm pump that pressurizes the Jiffy Jet bag.

This causes fluid in the bag to enter the nozzle hose system. The check valves are there to keep the fluid in the nozzle hoses and not drain back to the bag every time.

Dave
Thanks , that is the thread i found on here and i have connected the hoses as per the diagram .
My foot pump doesn't have the pedal and there is no evidence of it being cut , it is as you see in the photos .
I have connected it all back up again , first pump is good with lots of pressure .
Then it loses pressure .
By your description it sounds like my check valve may be the culprit .
Cheers,
Greg

Greg:

You pump should fit into a bracket that has the pedal (based what I can see in those diagrams).

I was confused why you were calling the check valve a three way valve but now I understand.

The big fitting a the bottom of the valve is for the hose that goes down into the bag (at least on a 56 era system).

The other two "ways" are at 90 degs to the bag hose. The larger of the two barb fittings is for the hose from the foot pump.

The small of the two barb fittings is for the hose that goes out to the two squirters (via a "Tee").

The check valve assembly has two check balls. The larger of the two relates to the hose to the pump (I think)

The smaller of the two check balls is at the squirter hose barb. I didn't realize until 10 minutes ago, there is a spring inside
that one that holds the ball down until there is pressure from the pump/bag hoses.

I think it is the combination of the smaller ball and the spring that keeps the squirter hose(s) full after the pumping stops.

Some photos that I just took of a NOS check valve for my 56 Dodge washer system:

Thanks Dave .
I see your check valve is mounted in your Washer Bag cap .
I have seen this in Google images as well .
I guess it wouldn't matter where it is mounted as long as the hoses are hooked up as per the diagram .
I only have one Squirter with 4 holes which is mounted in the center of the bonnet/hood .
I am still thinking the loss of pressure may be the check valve .
When i took it off to inspect it i noticed the ball bearings moved freely .
There was no spring inside holding anything in place .
Maybe it has rusted away over the years .

Greg:

I believe that your 1958 check valve is PN 1527 513. When I search "1527513 Check Valve", I get one NOS Buy it now hit on eBay and a few others associated with that number but for
more money:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/334675195416

"Up for bid is this NOS windshield washer check valve Chrysler part # 1838002 which is s/a 1241068, 1527513, 1527690 & 1880222"

Good luck.

Greg: I just got off the phone with Andy Bernbaum Classic Mopar Parts. They said that eBay is weird about shipping to Australia but they (Andy Bernbaum) will ship to Australia, if you order
directly from them (not through eBay)

He said "shoot them an email and they will work up a invoice with shipping" for you.

The items that we discussed were

Washer Pump Check Valve 1838002 and

Washer Pump Check Valve 1880222 (they look the same, this one is a bit cheaper).

Hope you can work something out.
