| Quick question, guys...
Went to put some oil in the filler tube on the distributor and it was full. I thought that odd.
So question: I know there's a brass bushing in the distributor but it should have a hole in it per the manual. I think for the oil to go somewhere and lube up the distributor shaft.
Borescoped in and the picture isn't great but it appears mine may not have a hole in said bushing.
Picture taken after spraying inside with brake kleen and blowing out with compressed air.
Am I missing something? Thanks!

      Location: N.W. Fla. | The '54 Chr shop manual says light oil every 1,500 miles, so, yes it should have somewhere to go. Of course to last 1,500 it would be very small I'd think. |

| In replacing distributor bushings, the manual reads, "Drill a 1/8" hole through upper bushing by drilling through oil wick hole. Remove burrs. Install burnisher tool...."
I like to think I'd be able to see a 1/8" hole but didn't -- hence the post.
Interesting... The 57 DeSoto manual says every 1,000. |

| We didn’t have Oilite bushing that are like today’s replacement bushings. We had to burnish the bushing after installing to, 1) seat it in the bore, 2) to size it for to fit the shaft. If you replace the bushing with Oilite or similar the bushing may be pre oiled so no need for the oil cup. If it is not pre oiled, hold the bushing upright and fill the bushing with oil by holding one finger over what would be the bottom, then take your thumb and press down on the top. This will press the oil through the pores in the bushing. For the miles one drives a classic the oiled bushing will probably outlast you.
