Location: Gympie area , QLD , Australia . | I don't know if the coil on my 58 Dodge Custom Royal (350) is original .
The readings are 1.2 Ohms Primary and 6K Ohms Secondary .
These readings are with the Meter Probe connections resistance (0.3 Ohms) taken off .
Is 6K Ohms Secondary enough for Points Ignition ?
A friend has a new Bosch GT40R (use with Resistor) Coil .
It's readings are 1.2 Ohms Primary and 16K Ohms Secondary .
I also have another old Bosch coil from my collection but the condition is unknown.
It has readings of 1.2 Ohms Primary and 9K Ohms Secondary .
Is 16K Ohms Secondary to high to use with points ignition ?
Cheers,
Bucket .

| Bucket,
I'm working on a '57 Fireflite -- Primary is 2.2 ohms, a little on the high side ("normal" is ~1.5-~1.8) but not necessarily needing a resistor.
Secondary is 10k ohms, I understand should be between 8k-11k.
Based on my (limited) understanding, sounds like 16k ohms would be too high and 6k ohms too low.
Happy to be wrong on this -- I'd definitely wait for a second opinion! Haha.

   Location: Gympie area , QLD , Australia . | Thanks Fellas .
I found another coil , I didn't realize I had so many stashed away .
It is a Echlin GX80R.
It's readings are 1.4 Ohms Primary and 12.5k Ohms Secondary .
I put the coils up to my ear and moved them around .
Should I be able to hear the oil moving inside ?
This happened on all 3 of them .
