Location: Powder Springs, Ga | Hello everyone. I have a 57 Saratoga with the 354 polyspherical v8, and I have a noticeable harmonic vibration above idle. I have had the torque convertor rebuilt some months ago, and I honestly can't recall if the vibration was there prior to then. The engine ran when I got the car, but I really didn't run it much prior to building the transmission and restoring the cooling system. I did try swapping the vibration damper just for the heck of it, and it really didn't make much difference. I have replaced the engine mounts and transmission mount. I did determine that the engine had been rebuilt sometime in the past by using a bore scope and was quite pleased to see that the pistons look practically brand new. They have the .040 stamping on the tops with no carbon buildup. I am a long time mechanic and I'll admit this one has me stumped. Any input would be welcome! Thanks! |

Location: Powder Springs, Ga | It's harmonic and varies with rpm changes. I talked to some fellow mechanics and the consensus is that it has to be the torque converter. Now, I have to get the torque converter rebuilder to get back to me. Once people get your money they write you off, so it seems. |
