My passenger side mirror mounted to the front fender is useless -- looks good on the car for symmetry, though.

It could be helpful, if only I could turn the mirror in more.

I'm looking to figure out what the limiter is -- what's stopping it?

Has anyone tried notching the body of the mirror to get out of the way of the "post" on which the mirror is attached?

See attached photo -- area hashed in red it what I was thinking of taking a Dremel to -- but unsure if it would work or if I'd just be making it ugly.

Any and all ideas welcome. Thanks.

Change the mirror glass to covex type.
Thats what Serge here on the forum did. He sent me a mirror glass and it really helped a lot.

Just ask a glass cutter to fix one cut to measure, Smash the original glass (ouch) and glue in the convex glass with silicone adapted for mirrors. Try it, you'll love it

Hey Wizard,
Just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation -- was able to get the right size (easy to find) for my other orphan car and it worked like a champ.
Hunted around and found the correct, exact size from yogisinc.com for the DeSoto -- should come this week.
Anyone considering making their side mirrors more useful should definitely consider it.

A 4 3/8" convex mirror is a very tight fit and once slipped in, stays put without adhesive.

After taking a small hammer to the mirror, behind the original was a foam disk, ~ 1/16" thick and a metal disk behind that. Was going to take a picture of all the parts, but after a dry fit, as mentioned, once back together, it doesn't want to come out.

Which I guess is a good thing. Another good thing is that it's a great upgrade and am grateful for Wizard's recommendation.

I called up a local glass shop and they will have a couple of them ready for me tomorrow!  If it's good on the passenger side, I'm going to put one on the driver side too!

It is indeed that part number.

I feel a lot better having one less blind spot.

Be sure to post pics!

I opted for silicone adhesive.  I installed both passenger and driver sides

I haven't really had a chance to drive the De Soto until last weekend.  What a difference those mirrors make!  The blind spots are gone!  Money well spent, in my opinion - both driver and passenger sides.  Thank you all for the tip.  Mine don't look quite as good as James', but I didn't want to break the mirrors and they are still very functional.  If I wanted to, I think I could remove them with no harm done.

but I'm not doing that!

I don't know about those mirrors. In the voice of Grumpy the dwarf, 'taint natural. But I may have to get some to try them out.

Once you drive with them Nathan, you will wonder why you didn't install them sooner!
