I would like to pass on this information that was in the Members 1st Credit 
Union monthly newsletter.
Car thieves are writing down the VIN number from the label on a car's dash 
and then are going to the local car?dealership and requesting a duplicate key 
based on that VIN number.? The car dealer's parts departments can make a 
duplicate key from the VIN number.? The car thief later returns to your car - no 
broken windows or alarms will go off.? He'll just walk up to your car, insert the 
key and off he goes.? By law, you cannot remove the VIN number from your 
vehicle, but you can cover it so it can't be viewed through the windshield by a car 
thief.
