Chrysler had a lot of troubles with the transmission, but fluid temperature
must have been a big one.  Obviously if a transmission gets too hot, that's
not good.  But there were also problems when the FWD tranny ran too cold.
Chrysler added a thermostat to limit fluid flow when the fluid temp was low.
I can only guess that the experimenting with different styles of cooler may
have been part of that as well.

Do you know why they changed it over in 91 to the internal cooler in the
radiator?
