Sometimes the switch needs to be adjusted. By '67 the switch is mechanical rather than hydraulic. These are usually adjustable. To make sure that it is functioning correctly, watch with a flashlight it while pushing on the pedal.
Over the years I have found that brake light switches are very often the cause of light problems, and also Auto Pilot problems.
