Re: IML: Ignition failure II

It takes the place of the points in the distributor. A Hall effect generator, if I am not mistaken. There is an 8-legged star (Or 6, depending on the number of cylinders) that rotates with the shaft under the rotor and causes a tiny amount of current to be produced in the pick-up coil. This in turn is sent to the Amplifier and eventually becomes spark, yadda yadda.

I like to think that I've been around. Have not heard
of a reluctor pickup coil before.

Can you describe/explain it to me?

Kenyon,

Is this an electronic ignition car? I had an elusive
problem with one
before. It turned out to be the reluctor pickup
coil. Worked fine when cold,
but after a while it exhibited similar problems to
yours. I changed it out
and all my problems went away.

cleaning the bulkhead connectors solved half of the problems. The worst half, I might add.
