Have you tried cleaning re-greasing the speedo cable? I believe the Olds 
uses a speedo pick up  in the front left (driver's side) wheel hub, under 
the dust cap. Pull the cable, clean it with some solvent, dry it thoroughly, 
and uses a graphite based lube on it. I usually only lube the first 2/3 of 
the cable as I feed it back, to reduce waste.
