If you show your car and want points for originality, you can delay the rot
in those old tires with meticulous care -- a light annual application of
Leatherique's rejuvenator oil or a similar penetrating moisturizer will
help prevent the dry rot your car's other rubber parts succumb to when left
untreated. I have heard Armorall and related products are actually
counterproductive and promote drying. Store the show tires out of the sun
in the proverbial cool, dry place. Rubber -- it's a natural substance,
and that's just the way it is.

Hello all;
Well that's a new one on me, to my knowledge automobile tires haven't been
manufactured from natural rubber since probably the 1950's. The old pre war
tires were made exclusively from it but you needed to change them about four
times a year. During the war they rationed tires because tires were made
from latex and latex was imported from Asia. Because of this they initially
extracted latex from other plants like milkweed but eventually the chemists
of the day figured out how to make synthetic rubber from petroleum, which is
what they have used ever since due to it's durability. Ironically when it
comes to the upholstery business latex based foam is the opposite from
tires, the real thing lasts far longer then synthetic foam.
As for tires probably the best way to store them is in a cool dry place
without any weight on them. Ultraviolet light and heat are probably the
worst enemies of any rubber, tires bearing weight in one spot on the treads
causes flat spots by breaking the cords internally. So if anyone is storing
their car for a long period put it on blocks with the tires off the ground
I don't see what Leatherique could do for tire other then make them look
pretty as Leatherique is designed for preserving porous animal hide.
