Silicone is death to new paint. It is fairly easy to remove before hand, but you have to be thourough, and remove it before sanding, as it will cause fish eye in the new paint. Also, tape won't stick

Yeah, what exactly is the problem with silicone polishes/waxes? I've heard about it countless times but never understood the reason. What about the "instant detail" spray on stuff that you're supposed to use after you wash your car, while the car is still wet?
