BY1-M. is the model number and decodes as :
B - 1966 model year
Y - Imperial
1 - V8 - 440
M - Crown
Thus your VIN should be YM43J63xxxxxx
You will find the engine number stamped on the top of the block in front of
the intake manidold valley pan, next to the distributor base.

Hello List!
I just joined the AACA, and will be showing my '66 Crown this Oct in
Hershey.
They want to know what model it is. I went on the Imperial Web Site, and it
said the series number is BY1-M. Is this the model number? Also where is the
engine number located?
I know the vin number is on the front door jam.
It's a '66 Crown 4 door hardtop.
