It has been a while since I have performed this type of repair but I do remember that removing the door panel is the easy part. I do not recommend that a novice perform this repair but after you have watched a pro do it you will see how easy it is. It is fairly straight forward but there is some detailed steps to it. Worse case scenario is that you damage the door pad using a screwdriver to remove it or scratch the glass. You need the proper tool to remove the clips. The clip itself is inserted into the pad and then are popped into a hole in the door. Early ones are a wire type and later ones made of metal. If I remember my lockout tagout rules there is kinetic energy stored inside the window motor mechanism. Without going into detail you don't want fingers or hands in the line of fire. The whole job should be completed in roughly a couple hours if there are no unforseen problems. Good luck.

I have a 74 Imperial, and bought a gear kit for the power window motor. The motor runs but the window dosn't move. I have never had a door panel off a car before and am not sure if I should take the car to a professional or attempt this myself. I don't want to mess up the door panel on this beautiful condition car. Also I have heard removing the window motor can be dangerous, there is something under tension that cat take your head off. If anybody has any experience with doing this job, please let me know what I am up against. Thanks,           Tom
