Re: IML: Record Sales for Imperia?l

1957 model year was the best ever for Imperial.

The model year productioon results were :

1. Cadillac - 146,841  (Oct-56 to Sep-57)
2. Lincoln - 41,123  (Sep-56 to Aug-57)
3. Imperial - 37,557  (Sep-56 to Sep-57)0
4. Continental Mark II - 587  (Sep-56 to May-57)

And that was the closest Imperial ever came to beating Linoln by model year production.

Comparing calendar year production, though (January to Decemver, 1957) :

1. Cadillac - 153,236
2. Imperial - 37,946
3. Lincoln - 37,426
4. Continental Mark II - 444

And for 1957 calendar year U.S. registrations (number of vehicles registered for the first time with state DMV) :

1. Cadillac - 141,209
2. Lincoln - 34,808
3. Imperial - 33,017
4. Contienental Mark II - 524

The Continental Mark II suffered a fate similar to Imperial.  It was pushed as a car separate from the Lincoln, but people, even today, call it a Lincoln.  Unlike the 1957 Imperial whose cars were built the the Chrysler plant on Jefferson Avenue and marketed by the Chrysler Division of the Chrysler Corporation, the Continental Mark II was built at its own plant in Ecosse Township in Michigan which also the headquarters for the Continental Division of the Ford Motor Company.  The Lincoln was marketed by the Lincoln Division and built at Wayne, Michigan, a plant shared with Mercury.
