Re: IML: 69 LeBaron back seat question

I was looking again last night and the screw holes for the passenger side speaker do not appear to have ever been used. Self tapping screws are used to hold the speaker in and the holes where the speaker is missing are too small to have had self tapping screws in them.

Also last night I was looking at the rear fiberglass insert. Some of the headliner material must have been inside the window opening when the rear window was installed and was caught up in the adhesive under the window. This may explain the leak on that side. I believe that the vinyl top was original when I removed it so this was probably done from the factory!

If I'm not mistaken, all 69's should have 2 speakers in the rear. If I recall correctly, the advertising that year touted 5 speakers instead of 4 in other luxury cars.

Subject: IML: 69 LeBaron back seat question

I pulled the back seat from my 69 Lebaron 2 door on the weekend. There is a very nice metal grill in the middle of the back seat with an Imperial emblem. On my car the grill appeared to be covered on the back by what looked like three strips of black masking tape. This tape was loose and pretty ratty so I removed it. Is this the original covering for the back of the grill. Has anyone replaced this tape with something better and/or more durable and if so what?

Also, my car appears to have only one rear speaker on the driver's I did not see a speaker wire for the other side. Does any one know if this was original or if the passenger side speaker was removed at some point?

Thanks

Fred Joslin
