Matt, It would appear you may have more than one problem. As for the trans, its possible your LOCK-UP torque converter failed, this can play havoc with the trans.As far as rear-end noise, it could be any number of things, U-Joints, brake shoes/hardware,wheel bearings, differential gears/bearings.To check the gear lube, there is a rubber plug on the back side of the axle cover, remove it and to check the lube level, put your finger in the hole to the middle joint, then tip your finger down, if you find lube, the level should be ok. Also look at the lube, it should be dark,and no metal particles in it.I think you need to raise the vehicle, to really see all, and rotate the rear wheels. Ya'll have a nice day, Dave
