I believe you will also find a very short black wire that will come unplugged if the try to pull the cluster too far out. Its been a while, so not sure what it plugs into. I believe somewhere near the clock.

I believe its your oscillator locaterd on the drivers sise kick panael up high . It should have a white and orange light going to it. There are companys at the clubs website that rebuild them . good luck

The cluster on 1962 is accessed easily by removing the screws and pulling it forward. The wiring was extended in 1961 to make this possible. You need to protect the painted surfaces from being scratched above the switches, and you may need to disconnect the speedometer cable. If you have Auto Pilot, this can be done from under the hood very easily.

 

The regulator is built into the gauge. The new one can be added to the back of the cluster without disturbing anything other than a small amount of redirecting the wires. This is spelled out in the OIC web site.

 

Keep us posted, most of us who have these cars ('60 through '63) have done this.

Dear Imperialists,     From postings on this list, it sounds like I need to replace the   dashboard voltage regulator on my 1962 Imperial before I start
 driving   it to prevent from frying the gauges.  What is the easiest way to get to   the dashboard voltage regulator?  The FSM says itâ??s behind the   temperature gauge.  Do I have to take the whole instrument cluster out?     When I look under the dash I canâ??t see the back of the gauges.  The   fuse block and a heater hose appear to be in the way, so Iâ??m not sure I   can get to the gauges from underneath.    Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
