Re: IML:Valve job

Your machine shop will be able to tell you if the valves and springs are good enought to be reused. This is a big part of the cost of a head rebuild if they need to be replaced. I would guess around $100 / head for a simple rebuild if all of the parts can be reused.
However, I would plan on replacing the exhaust valves anyway just to get good new ones in. Hardened seats cost more and bronze valve guides cost more. These are upgrades which will not be wasted if at some later date you do actually rebuild the entire engine. Probably around $300/head for the hardened seats and valve guides without any new valves or springs....

Also look at the rocker arms and shafts and pushrods. They made need to be replaced.

Is there a rule of thumb for when to have a valve job done and what should I expect to pay? The 440 has 100,000 miles and I really don't want to do a complete rebuild yet.

Thanks,
