Brian,
Yes it is the one that keeps the Auto Temp (heater) from coming on until the
engine coolant reaches 125 degrees.  Although mine appears to be the correct
type, it doesn't have the mounting brackets like I see in your photo.  I
don't yet know if it functions properly yet.  Once I get the rest of the
cooling system back together (hopefully this weekend) and get the engine
running again I'll be able to begin the testing and diagnostic process.

If you are talking about the one that keeps the autotemp system from coming
on when the car is cold it is part of the heater hot water valve that the
heater hoses under the hood connect to.  It can be removed but it belongs
connected to the valve.  Possibly someone replaced the heater valve with the
wrong one.  I believe I have an extra if you need one.
