I have a 69 LeBaron with the towing package.

 

Do you know the diameters of the different pullies so that I could measure mine?

 

I have the 69 FSM and as I recall the HD rear springs are actually fewer in number (6 vs. 7?) but presumably thicker. 

 

Also, I am interested in a power steering cooler because I previously had a 66 Newport which had the power steering overheat badly to the detrement of the entire power steering system.  Is there an OEM power steering cooler and where would one get it and the hoses? 

 

As an owner of one of these cars I find it facinating that someone would order one new for ther purpose of towing.

Maybe they just wanrted the HD goodies. I certainly like my trans cooler and think that the heavy duty springs and 3.23 rear are great.

 

Does anyone know how many of these cars were ordered with the tow package?

If you have a 413 or newer powered Imperial open the hood and notice the two same sized holes near the rad-ah-rate-tior and the lower portion of the battery on the core mount structure.  This is for the OEM mounted power steering aux cooler lines.  The mount is slightly different from the Crashlier Division to the Imperial Division even though they appear the same.

 

The Imperial for the towing package has a different spec'd transmission than a regular Imperial.

 

You have already ID'd the extra/additional transmission cooler, the stiffer T-bars and the additional rear springs.

 

Even though it may not have the Hi-Perf 413 or the HP 440 it may have the same alternator or power steering sized pulley's.  The amp's with tow packages are higher too.

 

The older Imperial with the 8 3/4 rear axle assembly should have the 3:23.1 gears and the newer ones with the 9 1/4 rear axle will have 3:21.1 gears  when they were built for towing.

 

If you do tow with your 1959-1978 Imperial you should have 235x75's vs 235x70's since they are rated for a heavier load.

 

The best HP tow camshaft package for either engine is the MoPar P4286675 assembly.

 

I like this cause it is very close to the power packages.
