Re: IML: '55 & '56 front & rear emblem

I think that the metal clips are still being made and are available, but they are overkill for the flimsy plastic tabs that they attach to. Even a similar clip made out of plastic might hold the medallion in place just as well, but be breakable itself when removed instead of damaging the emblem.

If the emblems are good, they still might need to be removed in order to replate the cast ornament. As it is, if they have to be removed, they are always destroyed in the process. Maybe the tabs could be slotted so that a tapered pin could be used to fasten the emblem. The pin might have to be designed to hold the medallion tightly, but something could be done that would be effective and also servicable.

What ever is done, it would be better to ruin a replaceable clip than an expensive medallion.

It looks like I had better look into making a better clip idea than the original ( are those clips even available any more? )  so that if you need to remove my Reproductions it will not be a drama, regards George.

My experience with the tab breaking off is that it takes some of the emblem surface with it. I tried using a dremel tool with cut off wheel to cut the clip off, but gave up. The spring is strong and stiff. It does not cut easily.

Does anyone have suggestions that Roger can use to get the spring clip off safely?

I have a really nice front emblem that I'll entrust to George to work his magic.  I'm sure it will help remind him that I had sent him the "ruby" crown bits for the '53/'54s a while back........ :) One of the "posts" has broken off the back of the emblem , so wish me luck in getting the other free from its little metal clip.  Otherwise, there's a whole new world of adhesives out there today.............
Cheers,
Roger
