IML: Flattened exhaust pipe stock?

On my 67 as the exhaust pipe heads over the rear axle and downward behind 
the rear passenger wheel the pipe is mashed to what seems to be about half 
of it's diameter for about 6 inches. The mash almost looks like a machine 
did it but what I want to know is does other 67's have this squished part?
