The Mopar 8 3/4 does have "sealed" rear axle bearings where the only lubricatiuon is from the grease used to pack the bearings.
Actually if the inner axle seal fails the rear end fluid can (and will) come right throught onto your brakes, thrash the brakes and will also remove the grease from the bearings causing the bearings to fail if not taken care of.

Not in the Imperial.  There is an inner seal that isolates the bearings from the axle housing.  The bearings must be lubricated before installation.

It appeared that someone in previous years had had the axles out, carefully cleaned the bearings, and reinstalled, very likely working under the mistaken idea that they were lubricated by the rear end lube.
