It sounds like you have a Sedan, not a Southampton. The Southampton is
a hardtop without a post between the front and back door windows. In
'57 through '59 both were offered in each model, Custom, Crown,
Lebaron. The Sedan had the extra little window you describe between the
door and the back window. 1960 also had both Sedans and Southamptons in
each model, but they did NOT have the extra little window in the back
door. 1960 was the first year for the smaller "back window" in the
LeBaron. 1961 on was only Southamptons, later called Hardtops, until
1967 when a Sedan was once again available.
Interestingly, for 1957 through 1960 Imperial Sedans and Southamptons
were the same price although each year the price went up, I believe.
Two door models were the least expensive when new, and the Convertibles
cost the most, other than the hand built limo, of course. They believed
that the choice between a Southampton or a Sedan was a matter of
personal preference! My parents chose the Sedan for the extra roof
support in case of a roll over accident with the family. Of course, we
didn't have seat belts!
Everything changed again in 1964 when the model line up was
consolidated to the Crown Four Door, Crown Coupe, Crown Convertible,
and the LeBaron with the cost of each higher than the one before. Again
of course the hand built limo was the most expensive BY FAR!

Okay, I just sent my hubbie out in the rain to check our '59 Crown
sedan. 4
windows per side: vent, front door, back door, and window between the
back
door and the back window (make sense?). Weren't all '59 sedans like
this?

LeBarons were 4 doors only, but came in Hard top and Sedan body style.
The hard top had the silver crest roof. The Sedan has the back quarter
glass
(6 window). They also had broadcloth interior only.
