Re: IML: using MMO on newer engines??

HI All.....does anyone know if using MMO should be limited to the older cars?...what if it is used in a modern Fuel-injected motor? will it still perform the lubing functions it was originally designed for...can it still be added into the fuel system (just a little bit) or will it mess up the engine control systems/sensors and the rest of the system?
Thanks all!!

I have used MMO as an oil additive and also as it was originally intended as an upper cylinder lubricant for about 25 years. Marvel used to sell top end cylinder lubricators that were basically vacuum drawn bottles that emitted a mist of oil into the intake manifold to oil the top end of the engine. Marvel Oil was originally used in textile mills to oil the machines. It is a mixture of wintergreen oil (hence the scent) and chlorinated solvents. The chlorinated solvents are what break up the gunk in your engine and allow it to be filtered out or circulated/drained. It works great to break carbon loose from valve stems and unsticking rings in old motors. Transmission fluid has a higher lubrication grade and can be used as a flush with a quart or two of thick oil and immediately changed, but is just that.

If your motor is so sludged up or warn out that the lifters are rattling, they might get some improvement for awhile by flushing, but it isn't rebuild in a bottle and your bearings are still
down to copper and cylinder taper doesn't improve.

Marvel Mystery Oil is very thin. If anything, it would reduce
viscosity.

Does the MMO just increase the oil viscosity?
If so are you better off running a good 20/50 synthetic? This also will
quite valve noise.

I am not sure if ATF does the same thing as
Marvel Mystery Oil, I have never used it that
way. But MMO is a great additive if you have a
car the has a Valve noise or tick. It's not a
fix but it make the noise quieter and gives you
more time to fix it right. I had a 1974 AMC
Matador Coupe a few years back that had a valve
ticking noise, MMO made it barely noticeable. I
like running MMO in a car with no problems, for
preventitive maintenance. If it quiets the
valve noise think of what it will do to prevent
that noise from happening. It's good stuff, and
has been around forever, and I know a couple of
other car guys who swear by it.
Thanks, Tom
