Re: IML: Electroluminescent Dash Lighting

You're welcome Robert! The dash lights is one of my favorite features about our cars! Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the excellent explanation (as always!).
Yes, a spare transformer on hand would be great, I have one just for test purposes.  I still have from time to time that the whole system goes dark, but haven't find the source for that problem yet.  Your explanation that it might be a short in one of the needles sounds very reasonable to me!  Next time I drive in the dark I will have a close look to the position of the needles to see in what position they are.  Unfortunately is not easy to "unplug" the needle from the entire system, all you can do is to unplug the complete gauge (dial and gauge).
But at least I will know then where to look :)

Btw, be prepared for a nasty shock when you accidentally touch one of the white wires when you are poking around under the dash..
Don't ask me how I know :)

Robert

Usually, if the "box" goes bad, the lights will come on initially,

If you plan to keep this car, you should read the FSM, collect a few

I tought that it should be 200-250v?
,Sami

110v is the STANDARD US electrical output, so probably the unit is
ok, > but check input and output rates, then check the dash
regulater. CJ.
