Re: IML: 1960 Starter

I do but it's really really small and it would be great to see the real thing. Most pics of engine bays are from the front and the radiator annoyingly hides the bits I need to see from behind the compressor.

cheers for the reply, much appreciated,

Luke

Luke,

Do you have the 60 FSM and the 60 Parts Manual?
If not, I will take a look to see if I can find the correct setup.

Cheers,

Robert

Do any of you 1960 blokes have rear air? I'm in the process of
installing factory rear air into a non rear air car. The unit I purchaced
five years ago is in but does not include the under trunk plumbing joints
that hook up to the compressor and radiator so I'm looking for pics of it
so I know what I'm asking for? I'd appreciate any help if anyone has the
factory setup.

cheers,

Luke

Thanks for your suggestion Paul,

I think I will mail Bob H. then to see if he has a good starter
that can be rebuild in the States. Here in the Netherlands it is almost
impossible to rebuild it cause the shops don't have spare parts for such
kind of starter motor.

That starter isn't available new. You should either have yours
rebuilt, or buy an extra and have that one done. You may be able to get
a good used one from Imperial Heaven. I have been very satsified with
my dealings with them.

Allright Paul,Â
Â
Thanks for the information! Do you know a source where I can obtain a
direct drive starter then for a 1960 engine/torqueflite?   Thanks,Â

Gear reduction starters don't fit 1960 unless the car has beenÂ
retro-fitted with the '62 or newer style engine and transmission.  Â

@Gary and Dave: is this the correct starter for the "old" RB seriesÂ
engines 59-62) ?  I am also looking for a 1960 starter, and 440source
doesn't have them  for the old RB bigblock engines.   Thanks,Â

The universal number is Lester 3257-1.5 HP, or 3258-1.8 HP, both areÂ
gear reduction starters. Dave   -------------- Original message

You can buy the high torque starter from Napa just be asking for a
high torque starter. It is about 1/2" shorter that the normal starter.
 If  you
can not find one let me know and I can pick one up.Â
