Re: IML: Shipping overseas vs domestic costs

I understand Kenyon,

You have a good point there, since the fuel prices since the last 2 years went sky high.

Btw, my car was in a closed container with one other (small) car.

I was also told that Oakland was one of the cheapest places to ship from so that might help too :)

Hmmm... still sounds like an awfull lot of money to
me!

My car was shipped from Oakland, CA to Rotterdam in
the Netherlands for only
$950.
If I compare it for transport from LA to South
Carolina $1350 seems a bit
steep don't you think?

Gasoline prices have literally doubled in the last 2-3
years here. I don't know what diesel is doing, but
presume similar inflation, which affects costs. Was
$1.50 and is now about $3.25, so over-the-road costs
have increased significantly.

Shipping in a container across an ocean is a
comparative deal where there are 4+ cars to divide the
cost or where the container can also move via rail or
truck significantly lowers costs. Also, the container
does not require a personal attendant/driver to get it
across the ocean, where a semi-truck does, so you have
to pay that person in a trucking scenario.
