There is a mystery short in the steering column..
At first it was 2 black wires from the wide black blade connector at the bottom of the column that needed wiggled to make it start, now it happens when the you tilt the column..or any other wires in the harness from the key to the blade connector...anyone else have this problem...BTW the ignition switch is a year old.. AND the wire from the bulkhead to the small white connector has been replaced
Jerry -- the tilt/telescopic column doesn't have any wiring going from the key switch through the column.  There is a metal rod that runs from the key switch to the actual ignition switch that is mounted about half way down the column.

The ignition switch is designed so that it can be physically adjusted up or down the column.  It sounds like yours may need adjusting.  There are two bolts that hold it in place--just loosen them and move it a bit, tighten the bolts, and then try the key.  You'll soon find the right spot for it.

As for the column itself, the only wires that are in the column are the wire for the horn, the wire for the "key in switch buzzer," and the wire for the little light that shines on the ignition switch.  The actual wiring for the starter relay and such is all connected to the ignition switch box that lives down on the side of the column.

Hope this helps!
