IML: Back on the road

To my surprise my '60 started up last night.

We've had a long and rather cold winter here. But more than that the car wouldn't start last fall after two weeks of fairly normal operation. Winter was coming so I just left it for Spring. I'd been pondering the problem and figured it had to be something fairly simple so yesterday I purchased a new coil and resistor and sure enough, that was it. This could easily be only the second coil the car has ever had.

It was perfect timing as I was then able to drive it to the local antique car club meeting last night, after which seven of us in our vintage cars made a tour across town to Tastee-Freeze. It was a fun ride and the first time the club had seen my Imperial. I was impressed that a few members guessed the correct year and a couple others were only one year off....but then I guess that would be normal for old car buffs.

The inside of my roof collects a nasty amount of surface rust (the headliner is already out). Has anyone else dealt with this? I'd prefer to have it sand blasted and painted professionally, but not sure I can make the money go that far. Any other decent alternatives that I could do? I've thought of using a rust-inhibiting paint like I've used on other things. Since I hope to put a headliner in this summer though, I'm not sure how well that kind of paint will hold up.
