Re: IML: Why not Reveal the Reserve Price?

Actually, I have found that having a realistic reserve keeps the seller from being ripped off. Although most items get bid up to their market value without a reserve, I have seen lots of things go far too cheaply. Sometimes this is due to listing errors, but we usually learn from our mistakes. Once the item has sold too cheaply, it is too late to correct an error. Good luck on this.

Hey Imps:

What's the big deal about concealing a reserve price on an Ebay car >
auction?
In asking that question, I'm getting the feeling there's an easy

I just haven't figured out. I'll take the risk of sounding stupid, >
however
(it's familiar territory) and take the plunge:

If there's a simple answer to my question, my simple mind would
appreciate
some input.

It's an advertising mind-game. People think that with a hidden reserve, they'll get a lot more bidding by enticing people who hope they'll get a steal. They figure if they get a lot of bids, the price will go higher, faster.
