,Rust was not a planned thing. l Most M/Cs are coated  with a type of paint to prevent rust.  Usually a cast color type of paint.  As long as brake fluid  was not spilled on it or was wiped off the cyclinder last for years with no rust.  One can paint the thing if he likes and never have problem.
