Re: IML: Easy To Spot An 318 From 360"s Pt II

Hola David

Most people do not paint the 340 engine's an lessor engine colour.  They tend to brag the power plant is an 340.  Nor do they normally install 360 or 318 spec'd 2 bbl's on them.

If the engine seems to labour when under 1800 rpms, then it may be an Plymouth or Dodge 340 in an heavy Chrysler Division '81 Imperial.

But, ... you do have an point.

That would work, but it MIGHT be a 340,(thin damper like 318) you never know. The casting number on the block is for sure. Dave.

Hola Class

Why jack the car up and waller around under it getting junk all over you when you can just angle the view from the driver's side to the Harmonic balancer.  If the harmonic balance is about an inch wide, think 318.  If it appears almost two inches wide, think 360.  If you have an thin harmonic balancer and an 2 bbl carb that appears not much larger than a soda can, it is for sure an 318.  If it has an thick looking harmonic balancer with an 2 bbl carb that has an four inch looking mouth, think 360.

Hi folks,
I am going nuts trying to figure out what engine is in my '81 F.S. Imp. I no longer believe it is the original engine ,as it has the old style "v" ac compressor and mount.
My 62 year old failing eyes have found this number on the engine block pad in the driver's side of the engine--GWG0132540276. I wirebrushed the pad before I wrote the number down, but, i might not have it right--as most of you know--it's hard to see clearly. I have searched the info on our website and found nothing even close to this number.
Can any of you tell me what it is?
Thanks for your help,
Jerry Landis
