Re: IML:Sure-Grip or Not ( suregrip rearend Factory Price )

Hola All

Since it has been a while since our cars where driven from the assembly plant and an customer has driven the same vehicle from the dealers place of business,  many things could have happened.  Knowing this is an reason to just pick up the rear of the car in all the safe manners so that nuthin happens in a bad way to you, or the car.  Now that you have the rear wheels off the ground with no brake and in "N" if it has Park, hand move the tire/wheel on one side. If the other side moves in the same direction you have Sure-Grip.  If the other side goes the other direction from what you are going, it is not Sure-Grip.

I say to double check the vehicle this way since the original vehicle could have been enhanced or the original vehicle could have been repaired in an lessor manner.

The 1959 and closely followed years may have the 2.93 ratio'd Sure-Grip.  By 1963 it was 3.23 with any car with Sure-Grip.  When Imperials started using the 9.25 diam rear differential ( 12 bolt rear cover ) the sure-Grip ratio was 3.21:1 .  If your Imperial is of these years and has the factory tow package it will have this same ratio, but not always the Sure-Grip.

Will the differential ( pumpkin ) inter-change from non to Sure-grip .. Yes.  Will  the complete non Sure-Grip carrier switch to the Sure-Grip version since I have one in the closet... yes.  At home the complete carrier can be ex-changed in about an hour with hand tools and an helping person.  If any of this is done, it is a good reason to purchase a new rear flex brake line.

Is there a way to tell if you got it on a '62?  Is there a code/number/tag somewhere that will tell you that you got suregrip?
