Re: IML: A funny Story

Well he could have said the Manhattan replaced the Imperial/New Yorker. At least that would have been in he step lineage!!! Kaiser-AMC-Chrysler.

I have one along the same lines. As I was driving my '73 black coupe
back to DC from Texas, I blew out two tires. In order to prevent any
further blow outs, I proceed to the nearest Wally World, and have all
new tires put on the car.

While discussing which tires I needed for the car, the counter clerk
asks me which year and model of truck I have. I say it's for a car,
and then give him the year, make and model. "OH". I also get the
question about the white walls "Did you want white walls?"

They wheel Blackie into the service bay, and start changing out all
the tires. No problems on changing out the tires, although the
counter clerk proceeds to give me a 'history' on Chrysler products.
"You know, the Park Avenue replaced the Imperial as Chryslers top of
the line car" "Oh, really?" I didn't have the heart to correct him.

I have no idea how he made the connection from Imperial to New Yorker
to Park Avenue (I know, a PA is a Blewick) I am assuming he might have
meant a 5th Avenue, but that was still years away.

And the tires? They ride very well now, thank you!

It's a wonder they didn't come out and tell you there were a bunch of
additional holes in each rim. You could have told them the wheels had been
infested with rim worms, a parasite that turns metal into rust and then

were decades ago when I first heard about duct mites.

Hi Group,
I went to the local Wal-mart today in Reading, PA, for tires for my recently
aquired 64 Imperial LeBaron. I asked for whitewalls in P235/75R-15. The
girl at the counter asked what kind of SUV I wanted them for? I told her
they were for an Imperial. She asked who makes that? And do I want the
whitewalls out? It gets better.
After she wrote the work order, she handed it to a kid in the shop. A few
minutes later she came into the customer lounge and told me there was a
problem. She said the stripes on the side of the tires were not white, they were blue. It took everything I had to hold back the laughter. I said "No kidding? I never saw anything like that. Could you show me?" She said "Ya,
come on out and I'll show you."
We went out to the tire rack where, sure enough, they were blue! I could
hold back no longer. After about two minutes of hysterical laughter, I got back up off the floor and licked my fingers and wiped off a little blue and
exposed the whitewall. Boy, she was amazed! She never knew about the
miracle blue turning into white.
Then the boy in the shop started the job. He couldn't finish the first
wheel because they didn't have any tire valves for the big hole. This place sells tires but only had the skinny valves. I had to drive down to the NAPA
store to buy the valves.
I'm glad I decided to carry the wheels in so I didn't have to explain how to
remove left hand threaded lug nuts.
This just made my day!
