Re: IML: Question on trim clips

Patricia,
I don't know specifically where to find the 3 5/8" clips you need.  I have a 60 and it doesn't have any clips that large.  But, there were several different types of clips that I needed and I was able to find them without a whole lot of problem.  Took some search time at a couple of shows, but they were available.

Tom:  There are a number of us online that are searching for the 3 5/8?  rocker panel clips for  62 Imperials.  If you know of a source for these, please let us know!

I refinished my 60 Crown last year and was able to find all the trim clips without a whole lot of trouble.  I would definitely recommend removing all the trim before you paint.  It's not a big problem and it's a whole lot easier polishing the chrome when it's off the car.  I was able to find some of the clips at a local body shop supply store and the rest I bought from a vendor at the Chryslers at Carlisle show.

Steve:  Having just painted my '62, I have gone through much of this.  I did not remove all chrome because I was only shooting for a #3 restoration and really didn't want to create more problems by finding rust under the chrome.  My car did not originally have wheel well chrome or rocker panel chrome but I opted to find some to put on.  The wheel well chrome was not a problem but I have not been able to find the required 3 5/8" rocker panel clips and I have done a lot of searching.  We will be improvising as result...will let you know how that works...should be done within the next week or so.

Subject: IML: Question on trim clips

I'm new to the IML and new to my 61 Crown Coupe. In planning and preparation

for a future paint job, I have a question that has a great bearing on

removing ALL the trim.

Are ALL of the clips available that will be needed to replace the trim on my

car, if in fact ALL of the trim is removed for painting? I have had painters

tell me you can really get yourself in a mess if the clips can't be had. I

realize taping off is not the ideal method, but if replacing this huge

amount of trim is going to be a major problem, I certainly might consider

it.

Any help here will be appreciated.

Thanks to all,

Steve
