Re: IML: When is it original and PRICE GUIDE

I use Old Cars Price Guide, which is published 6 times per year (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct, Dec) by F+W Publications, Inc., 700 E. State Street, Iola, WI 54990-0001. 1-877-300-0246. www.oldcarspriceguide.net or email oldcarspg@xxxxxxxxxx  It sells for about $5.00 at most book stores like Barns & Noble, Books-a-Million, etc., on their car magazine racks. This mag is used by many appraisers, as a guide. Keep in mind this is only a guide.  The real worth of a vehicle is the amount a willing buyer will pay a willing seller for the vehicle.

Hi All:

I am very appreciative of the numerous responses I received regarding “When is it Original”.  I think I now have a much better grasp on the terminology realizing that a lot has to do with the specific show and their expectations.  I thank those of you who kindly helped and particularly to Rodger R. who scanned the Walter P. Chrysler Retro Event applications for me.  Once again the mailing list has come to my rescue.

Next question…is there a buyer/seller guide such as a blue book or something for older cars.  Or better yet, a guide specifically for the Imperial?  I am currently looking at two #5 condition Imperials here in Montana and I have no idea of value.

Subject: IML: When is it original?

Hi All:

I become really confused when I attend car shows.  The word 'original' is bandied around a great deal in car circles. I admit I have no idea what my car is.it is about one-half original and one-half restored.  My IMP is original in that the previous owner said it was when I bought it in 1993. I was told that only the floor carpet had been re-done. Since I have had the car, it has had bumps and dents repaired and I had a #3 paint job, very close to the original white.most of the chrome was not removed. I added a right hand rear view mirror and also the option of the Flight Sweep Deck, plus rocker panel and wheel well chrome. None of the chrome has been redone, no new windows, no upholstery repair.  No mechanical restoration.just necessary maintenance such as new tires, brakes, fan clutch, etc.  Soooooo what do I have? I know it is a number 3, but is it considered original as well, or is The IMP a half-blood or something?

I surely could use some guidance so that I can be politically correct when describing my wonderful car without the necessity of going through the entire above diatribe every time someone asks.   Thanks all.
