Re: IML: is a 440 a 440?

Paul,
I had a very similar occurance with my 60 at a cruise night. An older guy approached me saying he like my 58 and wanted to see the hemi under the hood. I told him it was a sixty and unfortunately, no hemi but he persisted in claiming it was a 58. When I opened the hood he muttered something about an engine change and walked away.

Some guy at a gas station said that my 1960 Imperial had a Hemi. I told
him it didn't and showed him under the hood. He said, "See, I told you
so!". I just shook my head and let him think what ever he wanted to.

maybe he was thinking 430 Lincoln or 430 Buick?

Scary how few people know what they are talking about, but insist they
do. I recently had an acquaintence friend, who I should add has likely
never even seen a chrysler/imperial hemi before, insist that my 57' had
a 2 speed automatic. We used to call such people "bench racers"
when I was in high school, because they never actually had any hands-on
experience with mechanix, but they sure liked to talk about it.

Hi All....I'm having some work done on one of my '66's (the LeBaron).
The vehicle has about 67,000 miles and as far as I know the original
440 is still in the car. A mechanic who was checking out the front-end
while the car was on the lift asked me what motor was in the car and I
told him that '66 was the first year for the 440 and that all the
Imperials (as far as I know) came with this engine. He showed my some
numbers stamped on the passenger-side of the engine block that ended
with "430" and said that this means its a 430 NOT a 440
engine.......would one of the 'motor-guru's" please clear this up for
me?!
thanks a bunch all!!!
