Re: IML: Regret Bad Brakes not DOT 5

No worries... years ago I had a 73 Plymouth Valiant that I replaced the master cylinder/booster and all was fine for a few days, then suddenly the pedal would no longer return when being pushed down... since it worked fine the first day, I assumed my new M/C had wiped out my calipers, so I replaced the calipers... no better.. then someone suggested the proportioning valve, so I special ordered one and still no change. Completely flummoxed, I took it to a chain brake shop and they immediately wanted to change both calipers again... I promptly left and sought out an old school break mechanic who correctly diagnosed it over the phone as a bad booster... when I told him it was recently new, he said " here's how you tell... disconnect the vacuum line and plug it at the manifold, if your problem goes away.. it's the booster." I did and it did, so I replaced my new booster and that was THAT. Gotta love those old school guys!
