I, too, very much always appreciated the feel of the hand brake vs. the foot brake when I have been forced to operate in unforeseen duress conditions.  The foot brake operations I've driven, due to the inherent 'locking' mechanism, make for a two appendage operation as one must hand-hold the release to foot brake in order to prevent lockup and excessive slowdown (I DO understand in an emergency ANY brake is a good brake), whereas a pull and a twist of the wrist allows for a more 'standard' stop with the hand operated style......
