I hope that you and your family had an nice Christmas this year and they
all get better with each year.
I am pleased that your wondering selection of what dream car to get has
been whittled down to the 1946 - 1966 Chryslers and the 1964 - 1966
Imperial.
I am going to take the pleasure to separate some of the "salad" for
you. From 1946 to the first part of 1949 the body and rear fenders of
the Imperials, the eight & six cylinder Chryslers, the De Sotos and the big
Dodges all were the same. The Chrysler Windsor and the De Soto's were
"cousin's" in most every part number in all years that you have mentioned.
As you know, the "hemi" of yester-year is an very heavy ole engine.
If it was me and knowing what I think that I know, I would not seek out the
first years of the 331-354 or 392 Chrysler engine's in the "hemi" form. ( The
Windsor had its first V8 in 1955 and it was never in the "hemi" form. The
cousin's in the De Soto Division all had an "De Soto Hemi" since 1952. )
The under carriage of the 1963 Imperials is mostly the same as the 1964 -
1966 Imperials. The frame of the Chryslers is an "unibody" after the start
of the 1960 production year. The Imperial Division kept the "truck like
frame " until the end of the 1966 production year.
How do you think an vintage Air Stream would look behind your dream car
??? There are Imperial Driver's who do just this.
