Re: IML: 1972 GT Coupe Project Update

Hi Kenyon:
Great car and article.
I have a 69 LeBaron Coupe which is green so it looks very much like your car. Mine had a green vinyl roof, but the broadcast sheet callls for a white roof. Note that the center of the hub caps is white. These are certainly rare cars which is part of the attraction and a big part of the difficulty. I was in an Auto Upholstery shop yesterday which claims to have been in business since 1917 and the owner swore up and down that the first LeBaron was made in 1982. It does no good to call the guy an idiot, but it is hard not to!

The only rust on my car was under the vinyl roof and it is all gone now. The rust was much more widespread than you would have thought from looking at the car with the roof on. This made me not want to replace the vinyl roof, but I do not really see any other option with the fiberglass rear window insert. I really want to get the roof and front and rear windows finished so that I can at least drive the car again.
Part of what I like about the Imperial Club is getting the motivation to keep going. Seeing the article on your car helped with that and I have just followed up on some Boar Grain Vinyl leads for the roof. Last summer I really should have taken care of the roof, but was unsure of what I wanted to do, so spent my time (and money) on all new brakes (rotors, SS calipers, steel lines etc), wheel bearings, coolant hoses and a thorough flushing of the collant system. Certainly not a waisted effort. This summer should be the roof/windows and then of course the car will need painting.

Good luck with your roof. Hope for the best and ...... you know the rest.

Keep up the good work.
